Stitch Glossary & Abbreviations
ch: chain
sl st: slip stitch (insert hook, yarn over, pull through stitch and loop on hook)
sc: single crochet (insert hook, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through both loops on hook)
hdc: half double crochet (yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all three loops on hook)
Pattern stitch: Work in hdc, inserting the hook in the back loop only of the stitch from the previous row.
Finishing stitch: With the yarn on the wrong side, insert the hook from front to back between sts from the last round, yarn over and pull up a loop to the front. Keep the loop on the hook, * insert the hook between the next two stitches, yarn over, pull up a loop to the front, yarn over and pull through all loops on hook *.
Base: Follow the chart.
Instructions
Bag:
Start from the base. Ch 11 + 1 turning ch, and work the base following the chart. When the chart is complete, work 1 round of 34 sc around the entire base, working into the back loop only of each st from the previous round. Join and continue working in the round, in pattern st as described above. Close each round with a sl st and begin the next round with 2 ch.
At 6" (15 cm) from the beginning, in pattern st, make a 4" (10 cm) side opening by Ch 10 and working 10 hdc into it on the next round, centered along the sides of the base (see chart).
At 1.5" (4 cm) from the openings, work 1 round of finishing st as described and fasten off.
Strap
Chain approximately 31.5" (80 cm), work 1 row of sc, 1 row of finishing st, and fasten off.
Finishing
Sew the ends of the strap to both sides of the bag (marked in red on the chart), aligning with the edge of the finishing round.
