Instructions
Transfer the templates to tracing paper to use as a reference when working the piece. Note the arrows on the measurement chart indicating the direction of work.
Back: using Batik yarn 9978 (Symphony), cast on 66 sts on US 8 (5.0 mm) needles, begin the piece in 3/3 Rib stitch following chart 1 and the repeat stitches for 1.97 in (5 cm). On the next row, continue the piece in the mixed pattern stitch following chart 2 and the repeat stitches as follows: 10 sts (A), 2 sts (B), 14 sts (C), 2 sts (B), 10 sts (A), 2 sts (B), 14 sts (C), 2 sts (B), 10 sts (A). At 10.63 in (27 cm) in length, begin the armholes, dec 8 sts on each side (1 x), leaving a total of 50 sts. At 15.75 in (40 cm) in length from the beginning, bind off all sts and set the piece aside.
Front: using Batik yarn 9978 (Symphony), cast on 66 sts on US 8 (5.0 mm) needles, begin the piece in 3/3 Rib stitch following chart 1 and the repeat stitches for 1.97 in (5 cm). At 13.39 in (34 cm) in length, begin the neckline: bind off the 14 center sts and work the 18 sts on each side separately, dec on the neckline edge every 4 rows as follows: 3 sts (1 x), 2 sts (1 x), and 1 st (1 x). At 15.75 in (40 cm) from the beginning, bind off the 12 sts of each shoulder and set the piece aside.
Sleeve: using Batik yarn 9978 (Symphony), cast on 36 sts on US 8 (5.0 mm) needles, begin the piece in 3/3 Rib stitch following chart 1 and the repeat stitches for 1.97 in (5 cm). On the last row of the 3/3 Rib stitch, inc 2 sts alternately, for a total of 38 sts. On the next row, continue the piece in the mixed pattern stitch (chart 2) following the repeat stitches as follows: 10 sts (A), 2 sts (B), 14 sts (C), 2 sts (B), 10 sts (A). At 5.91 in (15 cm) in length, begin the sleeve inc and work these inc in 3/3 Rib stitch following chart 1 and the repeat stitches. Inc 1 st on each side every 2 rows (6 x), for a total of 50 sts. At 11.81 in (30 cm) in length, the piece will be as follows: 6 sts (chart 1), 10 sts (A – chart 2), 2 sts (B – chart 2), 14 sts (C – chart 2), 2 sts (B – chart 2), 10 sts (A – chart 2), 6 sts (chart 1). Assembly and finishing: using a tapestry needle and Batik yarn 9978 (Symphony), sew the left shoulder (2.76 in / 7 cm), leaving the right shoulder open to facilitate working the neckline.
Neckline: pick up 78 sts around the neckline with US 8 (5.0 mm) knitting needles and work in 3/3 Rib stitch following chart 1 and the repeat stitches for 2.36 in (6 cm). Bind off all sts, leaving a yarn tail of approximately 9.84 in (25 cm). Thread this yarn onto a tapestry needle and sew the neckline (2.36 in / 6 cm) and the right shoulder (2.76 in / 7 cm). Sew the side seams (10.63 in / 27 cm), leaving the armhole openings (5.12 in / 13 cm). Sew the sleeves (11.81 in / 30 cm) and attach them around the armholes.
