Stitch Glossary & Abbreviations: Yarn Over (YO). Chain (ch). Double crochet (dc.): YO, insert hook, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through remaining 2 loops. Front post double crochet (fpdc): YO, insert hook horizontally around the front of the dc. from the previous row, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through remaining 2 loops. Back post double crochet (bpdc): YO, insert hook horizontally around the back of the dc. from the previous row, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through remaining 2 loops. Ribbed edge stitch: Follow the chart.
Gauge: A 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) square in dc. using a 5.0 mm hook = 10 sts. x 8 rows.
Instructions
Cardigan:
The cardigan is worked vertically.
Back:
Make a foundation ch. of 70 sts. + 3 ch. to turn, and work in dc.;
Work only into the back loops of the dc. from the previous row;
Fasten off at 20.5” (52 cm) from the beginning of the piece.
Right Front:
Make a foundation ch. of 70 sts. + 3 ch. to turn, and work in dc.;
Work only into the back loops of the dc. from the previous row;
Fasten off at 9” (23 cm) from the beginning of the piece.
Left Front:
Work the same as the right front.
Sleeves:
Make a foundation ch. of 46 sts. + 3 ch. to turn, and work in dc.;
Work only into the back loops of the dc. from the previous row;
Fasten off at 16.5” (42 cm) from the beginning of the piece.
Finishing:
Sew the shoulders 9” (23 cm) from each edge of the back piece;
Fold the sleeve in half following the pattern diagram;
Attach the sleeves, sewing 0.5” (1 cm) on each side of the shoulder seams;
Sew the sides and sleeves;
Work the ribbed edge stitch around the cuffs following the chart;
Fasten off after completing the chart;
Adjust the ribbed edge stitch to decrease the cuffs;
Work the ribbed stitch along the front edges, back neckline, and bottom edge of the cardigan following the chart;
Fasten off after completing the chart.
