Stitches used and abbreviations: The terms in ( ) indicate the abbreviations used in the pattern. Needle (needle), Stitch (st), Row (row), Bind off (BO), Knit stitch (k), Purl stitch (p), Decrease (dec), Yarn over (yo), Skein (skein), Knit (k), Times (x). 2x2 Rib: k2, * p2, k2 *. Stockinette stitch: right side in knit, wrong side in purl. Pattern stitch: Row 1: * slip 1 stitch knitwise, k2, pass the slipped stitch over the 2 knit stitches, yo * repeat from * to * and end the row with k1. Row 2 and all even rows: purl. Row 3: k1, * yo, slip 1 stitch knitwise, k2, pass the slipped stitch over the 2 knit stitches * repeat from * to *. Row 5: repeat from Row 1. Slip stitch (sl st): Insert the hook, yo, pull up a loop and pass it directly through the loop on the hook. Single crochet (sc): Insert the hook, yo, pull up a loop, yo and draw through all loops on the hook. Half double crochet (hdc): Yo, insert the hook, yo, pull up a loop, yo and draw through all loops on the hook. Gauge – A 4-inch (10 cm) square in pattern stitch using US 10¾ (7.00 mm) needles = 16 sts x 20 rows.
Instructions: Transfer the pattern onto tracing paper to use as a reference when working the piece.
Back – Using Fitonê yarn in Carnation, cast on 68 sts on US 10.5 (6,5mm) needles and work in 2x2 rib. At 2¾ in (6 cm) from the beginning, switch to US 10¾ (7,0mm) needles and work in pattern stitch following the instructions. At 12½ in (32 cm) from the beginning, for the armholes, bind off on each side 3 sts, 2 sts, and 1 st. At 19¾ in (50 cm) from the beginning, bind off remaining sts.
Front – Work as for the back until 17¼ in (44 cm) from the beginning. At this point, for the neckline, bind off the 12 central sts and finish each side separately. On the neckline side, bind off every 2 rows: 4 sts, 3 sts, 2 sts, and 1 st. At 19¾ in (50 cm) from the beginning, bind off remaining sts.
Finishing – Sew the shoulders. Using Fitonê yarn in Carnation, pick up 66 sts around the neckline with a circular needle on the right side of the work and knit in 2x2 rib. At 1¼ in (3 cm) from the picked-up stitches, bind off. Using Fitonê yarn in Carnation, pick up 58 sts along the armhole with US 10.5 (6.5 mm) needles on the right side of the work and knit in 2x2 rib. At 1¼ in (3 cm) from the picked-up stitches, bind off. Sew the sides.
