Gauge: A 4 in (10 cm) square in pattern stitch following the instructions using US 10 (6.0 mm) needles = 15 sts x 22 rows.
Back: Cast on 65 sts using US 8 (5.0 mm) needles and work in 1/1 ribbing. At 2 in (5 cm) from the beginning, change to US 10 (6.0 mm) needles and continue in pattern stitch following the instructions. At 12.6 in (32 cm) from the beginning, for the armholes, bind off 9 sts on each side. At 20.5 in (52 cm) from the beginning, bind off all sts.
Front: Work as for the back until 18.5 in (47 cm) from the beginning. At this point, for the neckline, bind off the center 10 sts and finish each side separately. Bind off on the neckline side every 2 rows: 4 sts, 3 sts, 2 sts, and 1 st. At 20.5 in (52 cm) from the beginning, bind off all sts.
Finishing: Sew the shoulders. Using a US 8 (5.0 mm) circular needle, pick up 74 sts along the right side of the work around the entire neckline and work in 1/1 ribbing. At 1.6 in (4 cm) from the picked-up stitches, bind off all sts. Using US 8 (5.0 mm) needles, pick up 66 sts along the right side of the work along the armhole edge, leaving the bound-off armhole stitches free, without picking up stitches over them. Work in 1/1 ribbing for 3.9 in (10 cm) and bind off. Fold this armhole edging in half to the wrong side and sew it to the row of picked-up stitches. Sew the edges of the armhole edging to the bound-off armhole stitches. Repeat the same process for the other armhole. Sew the side seams.
