Stitches Glossary & Abbreviations

1x1 Ribbing: k1, * k1, p1*; Chain (ch); Single crochet (sc): Insert the hook, yarn over, pull through a loop, yarn over again, and pull through both loops on the hook.

Gauge
A 10 cm (approx. 4 inches) square in 1x1 ribbing, unstretched, using 4.0 mm needles = 41 sts. x 40 rows.

Instructions

Back: Cast on 135 stitches with 4.0 mm needles and work in 1x1 ribbing. Inc. 1 st. at each side every 10 rows, 9 times. At 25 cm (approx. 9.8 inches) from the start, bind off all stitches.

Front: Work as for the back until reaching 17 cm (approx. 6.7 inches) from the start. At this point, for the neckline opening, bind off the central 3 sts. and complete each side separately. Continue the side increases as for the back. At 25 cm (approx. 9.8 inches) from the start, bind off all stitches.

Strap: Cast on 16 stitches with 4.0 mm needles and work in 1x1 ribbing. At 21 cm (approx. 8.3 inches) from the start, bind off all stitches. Make two identical straps.

Finishing
Sew the sides. Work 2 rows of sc. along the top edge and fasten off. Fold the metal arc in half. On both sides of the front neckline opening, work 2 rows of sc. and fasten off. During the 2nd row of sc. on the neckline opening, work the sc. sts. while inserting the metal arc between them. Sew the straps to the top edge of the piece, using the red dots and measurements on the pattern as a guide.
