Stitches used:

• Chain (ch)

• Single crochet (sc)

• Slip stitch (sl st)

• Double crochet (dc)

Gauge: A 10 cm x 10 cm (4 in x 4 in) square using the pattern and an 8mm hook = 10 sts x 4 rows.

Size: 36 (S)

Front and Back Panels:
The front and back panels are worked separately and are identical.

Ribbed Hem:

• Start with the gray yarn (8214).

• Chain 38. Work 1 row of sl st, totaling 37 sl st at the end of the row.

• Work 5 more rows of sl st, inserting the hook into the back loop only of the chain. You should have 6 rows in total for the ribbed hem.

Body of the Vest:

1st Section: 4 rows of each color

1. Switch to the white yarn (8001) and work:

• 1 row of sc, inserting the hook under both loops of the chain.

• 1 row of dc, inserting the hook into the top loop of the chain.

• 1 row of dc, inserting the hook into the bottom loop of the chain.

• 1 row of dc, inserting the hook into the top loop of the chain.

1. Switch back to the gray yarn and repeat the 4 rows above using the same pattern.

2nd Section: 3 rows of each color

1. With the white yarn, work:

• 1 row of sc, inserting the hook under both loops of the chain.

• 1 row of dc, inserting the hook into the top loop of the chain.

• 1 row of dc, inserting the hook into the bottom loop of the chain.

1. Switch to the gray yarn and repeat the 3-row pattern as above.

3rd Section: 2 rows of each color

1. With the white yarn, work:

• 1 row of sc, inserting the hook under both loops of the chain.

• 1 row of dc, inserting the hook into the top loop of the chain.

1. Switch to the gray yarn and repeat the 2-row pattern as above.

Assembly:

1. Lay the front and back panels with the wrong sides facing out.
2. Mark the following measurements with stitch markers:

• 20 cm (8 in) for each armhole.

• 22 cm (8.5 in) for the neckline, leaving 10 cm (4 in) for each shoulder.

1. Join the shoulders and side seams using a tapestry needle and the gray yarn.

Neckline:

1. With the gray yarn, work around the neckline:

• 1 round of dc, inserting the hook under both loops of the chain. You should have a total of 38 dc.

1. Continue working in the round for 6 more rounds of dc, inserting the hook into the top loop of the chain only.
2. Finish the neckline with 7 rounds in total and fasten off.

Armhole Edging:

1. With the gray yarn, work 1 round of sc around each armhole. Fasten off.
